Gourock Baptist Remembers the Battle of Achi Baba

Gourock Baptist Church keeps strong links with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Association. On 9th July 2016 the Argylls attended a service held at Gourock Cenotaph in memory of the 300 1st/5th Argylls who fell in July 1915 at the Battle of Achi Babi on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey–young men from Gourock, Greenock and Port Glasgow. It was a moving ceremony. Several local dignitaries, including the Lord Lieutenant, Mr Guy Clark, and Inverclyde Provost Robert Moran were in attendance, as well as the Balaklava Pipes and Drums, the Gourock Argyll cadets, representatives from the Argylls in Port Glasgow, West of Scotland, RHQ in Stirling, and more.

The parade formed up at Gourock Baptist Church with our members providing refreshment to veterans from across Scotland.
