Near Cornalees Visitors’ Centre, just outside Greenock, is a noteworthy old well which has connections with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. On a recent sunny Saturday a group of men from Gourock Baptist Church walked to the well where they were given an interesting talk about the well’s history by Chris Folan of the A&SH Regimental Association.
The well, inscribed: ‘Erected by 6th A&SH – Aug. 1915’, now stands as a memorial to local Argylls who laid down their lives during the First World War. The well and it’s surroundings have been refurbished by local Argylls.
Gourock Baptist Church maintains links with members of the local A&SH Regimental Association.
